Landry- This is everything I have about our little venture:

Percheron like many large companies engages in Incarcerated Remote Mining. This means that individual inmates are sent in ‘habitation slugs’ to moons, and assigned the task of prospecting and mining resources through various drones. They either can grow or have delivered their own food, but they have no transportation of any kind.

One of our ‘Droners’ on HPX-7X (hired out to Livingston Smith’s mining company) was equipped with sophisticated telescopes, for the purpose of observing HPX-9X. Smith has mined every moon he has ever owned, with the exception of HPX-9X. My employers wanted to know why. In time, the Droner noticed some odd formations around the equator of HPX-9X. He discovered that what he originally thought was an abnormal rock face was in fact the ruins of some kind of alien structure.

Legally speaking, the owner of any given planet, moon, asteroid, or other celestial body is required to report the discovery of alien ruins, vehicles, or suspected deliberate planetary markings (“Rock Circles”) to the Extrasolar Archeological Association, or EAA. The inherent hazard with following the law is that the EAA has the legal right to expropriate a celestial body.
I was brought in to suggest to Mr.Smith that he sell Percheron the moon, rather than endure exposure and investigation. Percheron is the only other company mining in the vicinity of HPX-9X, so no other group would know.
He has been stalling ever since, and coercing him has become one of my main objectives.

In the interim, The Droner, Louie, contacted a Clamper on Bigby station. He suggested that the Clamper sell the location of the alien ruin to an independant archaeology vessel, as no matter who wound up owning HPX-9X there was no intent to explore the ruin.

The Clamper did just that, and shortly there after the Geoff-Bailey crashed on HPX-9X. Fortunately the Clamper was Hiram Briggs, an associate of mine, who promptly contacted me.

At this point, no other person within Percheron should know about the crash. Louie told no one other than Briggs, who contacted me directly through our secure network. I have no way of knowing weather Smith is aware of the crash.

The moon still belongs to Livingston Smith. Any landing there without his consent is naturally illegal. If the crew is rescued by Percheron or Smith personnel, or the ship logs recovered, it would lead naturally back to Briggs, which could easily lead to Louie, myself, and therefore Percheron. I don’t trust Percheron to be forgiving when such a massive embarrassment hangs in the balance.

I needed a cover to assemble the material to mount the rescue mission, and because time is very short I used whatever funds were available (including company funds). As far as my employers are concerned, the Mendicant is primarily a salvage and mining vessel, and you are being payed with the HSTO and mining laser mount. I’ll see what I can do about siphoning some real money for you.

Officially, I am hiring you to steal an object referred to as the ‘Silver Machine’. Maria Valentine, a former Percheron employee, worked on the development of this object. When she left, she took it with her, and has been using it as blackmail (how I can’t say) ever since. She used some of the money she extorted from Percheron to buy the Waterhorse, a popular restaurant on Bigby Station. According to our intelligence the Silver Machine is kept on the premises.

The loss of this asset has troubled Percheron for years, and they seemed only too happy to let me acquire it with ‘deniable assets’ (sorry, their words, not mine). This is a competitive company, and they reward results.

I will have Briggs assigned as your Clamper, and see to it he sends you this message. I should have the floor plan, security layout, and important persons list for the Waterhorse by the time you arrive. I’ll keep you informed.

A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.
